Me Axel SCHMIDLIN has been a partner at Schmidt & Associés since 1er October 2022.

He is active in commercial law, mainly in corporate law (assistance to start-ups, fund raising, mergers & acquisitions, liquidation, strategic advice), banking law (sustainable finance, Financial Institutions Act – FINA, Financial Services Act – FSA, Anti-Money Laundering Act – AMLA), economic criminal law (especially in the banking field) and debt collection law.

He teaches corporate law at the University of Geneva, within the Geneva School of Economics and Management and is a member of the Board of Directors of several companies.

Since 2022, he has also developed a company specialising in legal automation (contract law and debt collection).

He is a regular lecturer, notably at Academy & Finance and in the CAS Compliance programme, where he deals with subjects such as sustainable finance, artificial intelligence and the fight against money laundering, and publishes on various commercial law topics.

He previously worked for more than three years in Big 4s in Geneva and Zurich (Consultant to Manager) where he was a specialist in financial services law and sustainable finance.

He also worked for several months at the Financial Market Authority (FINMA) in Bern. He then worked as an attorney at a renowned law firm in Geneva and thus accompanied a number of asset managers and trustees in the setting up of their professional activity (in particular their LEFin authorisation).

Prior to that, he was for several years an assistant at the University of Geneva (corporate law, corporate groups and restructuring, accounting law) and a Visiting Scholar at the University of California Berkeley.

He studied at the Universities of Geneva, Zurich and Berlin (Bachelor of Law – mobility – and Master of Economic Law – Erasmus). He completed his legal internship with a renowned international arbitration firm and obtained his bar exam in Geneva.

He practices in English, French and German.
